Wick Me Away to...Germany!

Have you ever been to Europe?

When planning a Europe trip, there are so many countries to choose from. Sometimes, you have to get your priorities in order because it is almost impossible to see everything unless you have the ability to take months off from work. If you need any advice on narrowing down your Europe itinerary and making it more doable, here is why I think Germany should be at the top of your list…

1.The Food
Pretzels, anyone?! Germany’s food is cozy and delicious at any time of year! You can get big soft pretzels just about anywhere, and who doesn’t like that? If you’re in Munich, I would suggest checking out the original Hofbrauhaus. Hofbrauhaus has locations all over the world, but the Munich location dates back to the 16th century. You can experience a traditional, 3-story beer hall filled with delicious German food, shows, and Bavarian culture! It is definitely worth a visit.

2. The Cities
I have never been to Berlin, but would love to go. My best friend did a trip to Berlin with her dad and said it was incredible, especially if you’re a history lover. I personally loved Munich. It is one of those cities that you can explore and always find new, interesting places. Not to mention, the architecture is beautiful! If you’re not in the mood for German food, Munich has plenty of quality options from all over the world. It is also a walkable city. I was able to get around without ever having to call a cab or Uber.

3. The Culture
If you’re planning on going to Germany, there are two times of year I highly recommend. The first is Carnival, which is sort of like a European version of Mardi Gras. I was in Munich during Carnival, and there were countless things to see and do, plus many people were in costume and there was live music. The second time to visit is obviously Oktoberfest. I have never been to Germany during this time but would love to go someday! Both of these events display the German culture in a way that invites visitors to join in. If you don’t have much interest in participating in cultural events, I would recommend visiting in the summer to make the most of the beautiful weather.

4. The Natural Beauty
The southern German region of Bavaria is home to part of the Alps. Pretty much everyone has heard of this world-famous mountain range. I would venture to say that the region of the Alps located in Germany is just as beautiful as Switzerland! Taking a train through Bavaria will take your breath away, and if you’re there during the right time of year, there are many outdoor activities available such as backpacking and camping. All with the backdrop of a mountain range with unparalleled beauty … what could be better?!

5. The Castles
Germany is home to many beautiful castles that are full of history. During my time there, I visited Neuschwanstein Castle. Located in Bavaria about an hour and a half train ride from Munich, this 19th century castle is truly a sight to behold. It is well known that it was what inspired Walt Disney to create Sleeping Beauty’s castle. While all castles are incredible, this one definitely takes the cake. It is in the foothills of the Alps, so any photo you take of it will be stunning. In addition to this, the inside is intricately painted with fairytales and stories. It is quite easy to get a tour. Stop by some of the restaurants in the town nearby to get some traditional German food before your tour - the full experience!

Germany is a beautiful country full of beautiful cities, vibrant culture, jaw-dropping natural beauty, and delicious food. It is worth a visit, and definitely should be at the top of your European itinerary. Once international travel is the norm again, get booking.

You won’t regret it!
